Guayaba Fruit

Guava-Fruit is from a genus of about 100 species of tropical bushes and small trees in the Myrtaceae family; which has many aromatic species like eucalyptus and “clavero” (caranday palm). Guavas are produced from trees of the gender Psidium; native in the Caribbean, Central America and the northern part of South America. It is also known as Guayaba; Guara; Arrayana; and, Luma. When the Guava fruits are ripe, they have a deep aroma that makes them very inviting and tempting.
The Guava’s edible fruit flesh is contained in a round or pear form, with diameters between 1.2 in (3 cm) to 4 in (10 cm); with a thin and delicate skin in pale yellow or green at the ripe stage varying to Red in some species. Inside the Guava is a creamy white or orange-salmon color pulp of gelatinous consistency; with, many hard seeds that are also edible. Guava-Fruit is rich in vitamins A, B1 and Guava has a vitamin C content that is seven times greater than that of oranges!
Guava is an ideal fruit to make marmalades and pastries such as Tarts. Guava has a low caloric content, a small amount of carbohydrates and even less proteins and fats.
